Outdoorsy Monday

Sort of.

Good afternoon,

Today we spent a higher-than-average-(for-a-Monday)-time outside, what with Fitness...

...and team building.

All on top of morning tea and lunch.

The children will have got another camp notice today as well. Please, if they do not produce it of their own volition, chase the up about it!

Funday Friday

Good afternoon,

Another fun day was had here in the Batten Team. For example, I introduced a new app from my phone - Story Cubes.


So, I rolled the dice (on my phone), screen shotted the result...

...bluetooth'd the file to my computer and then sent it straight to the children's Literacy folder, so that the children could get into groups of three or four and make up a story between them. Orally.

To further that, 500 points is offered to each child who uses this image, pastes it into a Google Doc and writes a small story using these cubes.

Forgetting Thursday

Good evening,

Today was a bit about forgetting stuff. Firstly I forgot to take out my phone while Rooms 3 and 4 participated in a couple of fun team building games in preparation for camp, consisting of getting hoola hoops across their groups while everyone held hands. 'Twas great stuff!

I also forgot to post this...


...which was recorded a number of days ago.

This one is still fresh, so to speak. It was recorded this morning.

Year 4-8 Swimming Sports

Good afternoon,

The Batten team, along with the Hillary and half the Shepherd, spent the bulk of the day down at the pool challenging ourselves (well, the children were, I kinda wasn't!) to beat our personal best.

And a good time was had by all!

This lunch time, at around 12:51 we joined Hoon Hay School for a commemoration service to mark the 5 year anniversary of the 2011 earthquake....

...four years ago today.

It was a lovely service.

Get Together Friday

Good morning,

Yesterday Room 3 caught up with Room 2 not once...

...but twice!

We all just happened to be at the same place at the same time!

And, in other exciting news, I've just ordered a small directional mic for my phone that will hopefully amplify their audio a touch. Watch this space. Not that you can watch this vid on their Chromebook, you understand. You'll have to use another platform.

Fun Day Thursday

Good evening,

And a lovely evening it is, what with the community out and about enjoying the fun night.

This morning the Batten Team continued their usual learning activities, such as reading...

(Oh, and if the children want to watch these videos below - and I would recommend that they do - they'll need to use another computer/internet browser that isn't logged in as them. Their/my Chrome browser is really locked down inside the school infrastructure. I can only watch them through Internet Explorer. These YouTube clips will not be able to be viewed on their Chromebooks. Yet. Sorry.)

Wednesday's Wednesday

Good afternoon,

We started out first opt in numeracy workshops this morning...

...which seemed to run fairly well.

After reading...

...just read what's there children...we continued with the new testament for R.E. this afternoon.

Which the children did a good job of finding answers thereof independently.

Oh, and this...


A follow up reading activity. Which, it would appear, you cannot watch on your Chromebook due to restriction settings :-(

I'll try to get that sorted. In the meantime...try to watch it in Internet Explorer? I'll show it in class tomorrow anyway.

Please remember the Meet the Teacher meetings tomorrow at both 3 and 6. Not that you have to attend both, you understand...

Maths Planning Tuesday

Good evening,

This morning our Year 5s had their first experience of determining and selecting their maths workshops for the rest of the week according to their own needs.

Then 'twas a quick few moments to be had back in the room doing maths activities before morning tea.

Then on with literacy...

...and, after lunch, and more of Hatchet (who knew porcupines could be so dangerous, or bears so benign?!), some Digital Citizenship...

What it means to be a safe, responsible digital citizen

• treat people online as if they were right in front of you.
• keep yourself safe online - treat strangers as strangers
• be aware of your personal digital footprint

...which a couple of Room 3 bods may have to catch up on this evening, and keyboard skills.
